Usually when we walk into a space with “sweat” in the name, it indicates a high impact bootcamp or an energetic spin class. Dew Sweat House, however, is a very different kind of sweat.
After walking into an airy, charming waiting room, we settled into comfortable beds in private rooms where we were given noise canceling headphones plugged into a TV screen showing the Netflix menu (can we make Netflix + Sweat a thing?). And then they turned up the heat.
To start our 55-minute session, we were tucked into the beds under heavy far-infrared heat blankets, which gradually heated up until peaking at their maximum temperature with around 15 minutes left in the session. That’s when things get really hot, and super sweaty (despite the cold compresses provided).
Why Far-Infrared?
The far-infrared heat blankets safely raise our body temperature, allowing for deeper penetration of invisible energy waves to the muscles, joints and tissues, warming the body from the inside out.
Since the blankets heat the body directly, they can be more comfortable than a traditional sauna, as the air temperature around us doesn’t need to be raised. The blankets also induce an artificial fever which activates the body’s immunity, killing harmful bacteria that can cause infection.
Sweating under far-infrared blankets is also said to improve circulation, increase metabolism, and expel toxins.
Sweat for a Cause
Outside of just making you sweat, Dew Sweat House has another mission too: they offer cancer patients their first treatment for free, as infrared blankets are said to aid in post-treatment recovery.
